Safeguarding in Sport
We start our journey to introduce safeguarding into the sport of Weightlifting across South Africa and beyond. If we all work together we can make weightlifting and all sport safer for everyone.

SAWF Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO)
Introducing our new DSO
It is a great pleasure to introduce to you the SAWF’s new DSO: Carol Anthony. Carol will be responsible for working with our provincial associations to implement and manage the safeguarding requirements intended to ensure our athletes and members are afforded safe spaces in which to train, work and compete. One of her first tasks will be to assist and ensure coaches are compliant with the requirements set out in the coaches’ policy.
Although Carol will primarily be working in conjunction with provincial safeguarding officers, she is also available to be contacted directly:

Below is a short message from Carol

Hi, my name is Carol Anthony
Having coached and worked with female and young athletes and as the parent of a special needs child, I have always been mindful of them having a ‘safe person’ to turn to if they are ever feeling threatened or uncomfortable in certain situations.
As a qualified teacher, I relate to young people and am always mindful of the challenges they may face in the society we find ourselves in.
Safeguarding is not to be taken lightly and I want to be a part of the process of ensuring that vulnerable populations are protected to the best of our ability.
